OUR PEOPLE
Virgin Australia group of airlines (the Group) employs more than 7,000 team members in Australia and New Zealand. We are a popular employer of choice in Australia and in April Virgin Australia won the Randstad Employer of Choice for 2011 which canvassed the opinions of 7,000 job seekers across Australia. Our team members are our most important asset and we are committed to ensuring they remain our focus.
Gender equality
Women currently make up 48 per cent of the workforce and are expected to reach more than 50 per cent representation over the next 12 months. Virgin Australia has made significant progress in the number of women in leadership roles with 50 per cent of our Group Executives being women. While Virgin Australia has made some great steps towards gender equity, we remain deeply committed to furthering our progress.
Indigenous employment
Virgin Australia is committed to encouraging and growing our Indigenous workforce through our Indigenous Employment Strategy. We aim to foster a working environment that provides opportunities for all team members to be enriched by an understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and values. Our strategy has been incredibly successful. Since 2009 the number of indigenous Australians employed by Virgin Australia has increased from four to 38. In June, Virgin Australia won the business category of the Queensland Reconciliation Awards 2011 which reflects the ongoing commitment of Virgin Australia to ensure that our Indigenous Employment Strategy is communicated across our teams and in the community.
Employee engagement
Virgin Australia launched an initial Engagement Survey through the Gallup Organisation in June 2010. In 2011 a follow-up Engagement Survey was conducted, seeking feedback
from team members on what Virgin Australia is doing well and what we could be doing differently. The Engagement Survey provides all team members with an opportunity
to give Virgin Australia feedback that can help shape our company in the future. The survey allowed us to better understand areas of importance to our team members. Feedback from
our previous survey has helped us to develop better team member benefits.
Rehabilitation
Virgin Australia continues to provide a high level of care to our team members and this is a reflection of our value of caring. Virgin Australia remains committed to achieving positive outcomes for team members including returning to the workplace at the earliest opportunity. Virgin Australia was recognised as a Finalist in the 2010 Q-Comp Employer Achievement Awards for providing outstanding contributions to improve the return to work process for injured workers and ensuring successful outcomes for all.

Mid North Coast Local Health District
The Mid North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD) covers an area of 11,335 square kilometres extending from Port Macquarie Hastings Local Government Area in the south to Coffs Harbour Local Government Area in the north.
The population of the MNCLHD is one of the fastest growing in NSW with a high aging population compared to the State average.
The MNCLHD has Base Hospitals at Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie as well as District Hospitals at Wauchope, Kempsey, Macksville, Bellingen and a Multi Purpose Service at Dorrigo. In addition to acute care, Community Health Services are delivered from nine locations across the Mid North Coast.
The MNCLHD provides quality health care locally to residents of the Mid North Coast. Access to timely and accurate person-centred information is essential to provide this care, especially in communities with ageing populations with chronic and complex health care needs. The MNCLHD recognises the importance and value of an integrated electronic medical record (eMR) in providing a high standard of care to rural communities.
To overcome difficulties currently faced in sharing patient information between health care providers in hospital, primary care, nursing home and community settings, the MNCLHD is continuing to invest in developing and extending its eMR infrastructure which relies empirically on the availability of high speed broadband telecommunications to operate.
In particular, the focus in the next five years will be to extend the eMR to support primary care and improved, secure, electronic two-way sharing of information via broadband connectivity across care settings. Key elements of this focus will involve the continuing development of electronic discharge summaries to reach a broader range of health care providers, the exchange of information between cancer care services and other health care providers and the establishment of electronic care plans that can be developed and worked on collaboratively by the clinicians providing care for individual patients.
The MNCLHD will also work to implement an electronic transfer mechanism for sending medical images to tertiary facilities for review and consultation to assist with the immediate treatment of trauma and critically ill patients, and improved decision making regarding the need to transfer these patients to a tertiary facility for further treatment.
This enhanced use of Information, Communications and Technology systems will involve extension of the LHD’s existing Cerner eMR to provide support for primary care services, improved integration with the MOSAIQ radiation and medical oncology information systems, enhanced discharge reporting and bi-directional secure messaging using the ArgusConnect secure messaging platform.

North Coast Institute of TAFE
TAFE - more than you imagine
North Coast TAFE is more than most people imagine.
The North Coast’s biggest education provider enrols each year more than a full crowd at the Sydney Football Stadium - about 8% of the North Coast population.
And it’s more than buildings with classrooms. Non-classroom learning comprised 25% of the total units enrolled in North Coast TAFE in 2010, and has grown by just over 21% in 2 years. On-the-job learning on its own has grown by nearly 30% in that time, which means that businesses and employers on the North Coast have benefited from having their staff stay with them as they learn skills relevant to their specific workplaces.
It’s more than trades and traditional skills, with more students graduating with Diplomas and above in areas like business, tourism, IT, nursing and accounting – and more students choosing to take the TAFE-university pathway and save time and money.
It’s more than a typical registered training organisation. North Coast TAFE partners with and supports businesses, industry and communities in many different ways, including providing a joint offering with Southern Cross University in Information Technology, partnering with companies like GoBroadband.org.au and delivering e-learning to remote communities.
